Positive Fitness Project in the park

DSC_0016 (2) This is Liz, my pint-sized powerhouse of a personal trainer.  She has miraculously coached us through running a 10 K, somehow hypnotised many into doing early morning yoga sessions and does not in any way make me feel horrible for not being consistent when life or schedules change. Liz also allows me to swear during exercise (every squat jump) (on occasion), call jumping jacks 'helpless starfish moves' but most importantly has a genuinely realistic, positive approach to fitness and well-being.

In the current climate of gluten-free, no-carb, green everything our visual processing of individual bodies and minds has changed so drastically that it really is the most refreshing experience to work with someone who sets the dial to a more comfortable setting.

Over the last few weeks, we've been out in the park doing HIIT (high intensity interval training). For beginners, each exercise is done continuously for 30 seconds with a 30 second rest period in between.  For more of a challenge, it's 45 seconds on with each exercise, 15 seconds rest.  We repeat this entire cycle 3-5 times.  For those who might want to try, two apps for circuit training : Bit Timer ('the world's simplest interval timer') and HIIT interval training.

The sort of stuff you can do anywhere without the equipment. And with little ones in tow (or at least try to).  A (sort of) win-win situation ;)

And this is the part where you feel like you've won at life and Liz tells you that you're a hero.

(Which you are)  Happy HIIT sweet friends.
