A Lens + Larder Dinner | Kildare Village

Sunday, June 26, 2016

Kildare Village welcomed Lens & Larder Village life as part of a new calendar to celebrate the wealth of emerging talent in the creative field in Ireland.  The gorgeously talented people who rallied behind this dinner (Imen, Cliodhna, Grace, Aoife, Mark and memorable artisan suppliers) left me loving this sweet island's offerings more than ever.

A four-course meal served family style included starters like turf- smoked Atlantic salt-baked beetroot, St Tola's goats cheese, caraway and dill preserved wild garlic.  Connolly's organic eggs pickled pink.  A main course of fresh caught halibut roasted whole on the bone with nettles and grounded elder.  A Farmette dessert that was a star in its own right: buttermilk tart with Toonsbridge ricotta and honey from Helen Gee's bee hives.

An encyclopaedia of food knowledge and preparation brought to life.  It was the type of dinner that reminded me that we were made for this type of community- for conversations around a table, for closeness, for warmth shared over a meal.

A beautiful gathering from start to finish. Absolutely cannot wait to see what's in store next. DSC_0169
