Etsy's bright light | IRL

DSC_0877 A few weekends ago, a group of us were invited to the Etsy headquarters to spend a little time to learn about the digital marketplace, mingle, eat and workshop.  For those who love craft, personal touches and have a penchant for bookmarking/wishlisting/purchasing unique goods at the steady, this is a virtual golden ticket to it all.

This sweet country has been erupting lately with amazing individual and collaborative craftmanship ventures-and I keep discovering more to fall for like Lola Donoghue, Chupi, A box for my treasure,  CartaBanClover Rua and just discovered Danu  (!) (to name just a few).

Etsy's founder in an interview, mused the orgins of the name 'Etsy' came from "watching Fellini's 8 ½ and writing down what I was hearing. In Italian, you say 'etsi' a lot. It means 'oh, yes.' And in Latin, it means 'and if.'"

Both expressions which seem very appropos to the experience.  More than that though, walking through the company floors that Sunday afternoon and sharing in their brightly decorated event room- listening to Anna, Andrea and Jennie speak about the ethos of the company (its firm belief in supporting community, independent entrepreneurs and sustainability within its walls) had me smitten.

This is the real deal friends.
