I am trying to refrain from simply typing in 18 exclamation points to accompany this post.  Fiona and I were lucky to be a part of the IMAGE run club that began nearly six weeks ago, I missed three of those sessions due to work shifts but made all of them two of them one of them up myself with an individual run.  Long story short, we did the Women's Mini Marathon 10K this bank holiday Monday as part of a goal setting structure. Cold, wind, rain- we kept jogging and somehow amongst it and as first time joggers, we did it in 62 minutes! This obviously is not a huge feat for seasoned athletes but we are unashamedly proud and encouraged to keep on keeping on :)

Liz Costigan, our fitness coach extra-ordinaire who has an innate sense of light and encouragement for training within taught me this over the weeks:

1) We are so incredibly lucky and blessed to be out with running shoes on our feet hitting the pavement.  Have f-u-n! (a lovely, constant and necessary reminder)
2) Keep moving.  Whatever the pace, no matter how slow- do not stop.
3) There are good days, bad days, and in-between days- allow for this.  Try not to be too hard on yourself or discouraged on the bad ones.  We're human. Give yourself a break and be kind to you.
4) Everyone runs for different reasons.  It is a team effort.  Encourage one another.  Silence those doubts and get going.  Be inspired, feel empowered.
5) If you run, you are a runner.  Believe it.

Trust me when I say that all of these were floating around in my head between fitful, unsightly attempts at pacing breaths and trying to keep up with my long-legged gazelle of a running partner. But we did not stop moving.  We, dear readers and friends, are runners.

A massive congratulations to all of the glorious participants.

(insert break for Rocky Balboa theme music here)
