Colour in the Stables

Saturday, May 9, 2015

Some visual inspiration from yesterday's Kolkata experience at the Fumbally stables.

Growing up in a South Indian household, a very conservative one at that, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to learn Bharata Natyam (a classical indian dance) for nearly 9 years under Sudha Chandra Sekhar  (Sudha auntie to us) and her beautiful daughter, Anjali.  Their whole family embody dance, spirit and artistry in a form that I  struggle to find words to describe.  It is ethereal in its truest sense.

Looking through these images this morning and I am reminded of two things: 1) adavus-the all to familiar singing of thath thai tham syllables and 2) a translated line from a small documentary in the true slums of Mumbai:

''I may not have a penny to my name, but this life here is so full of colour.''

  1. Wow! Breathtaking colors!

  2. Oh wow, this looks beautiful. I see the Fumbally Stables are going to be doing workshops... fancy doing one?!
